UAE Pavilion, Expo 2020

The National Media Council has selected architect Santiago Calatrava’s design for the UAE Pavilion for Dubai World Expo 2020.

Located facing the Al Wasl Plaza, which lies at the centre of the 200-hectare exhibition zone, the UAE Pavilion — the design of which is inspired by a falcon in flight — will represent the UAE to the 25 million visitors, and participants from over 180 countries, who are expected to visit the Expo between October 2020 and April 2021. The project is a very complex structure with hydraulically controlled movable wings sitting over an array of photovoltaics panels, which are exposed during peak daylight hours. The project has been delivered in Revit LOD 300 by our in-house team which ensured a fully integrated design.

WME is providing full engineering delivery, including sustainable design to LEED Platinum. We are also acting as architect and engineer of record and were the first Pavilion to received full Building permit in July 2017. Arabtec Contracting LLC have been appointed as the main contractor and working simultaneously with our supervision team on site since September 1st where again we were the first Pavilion to break ground.
